| Doug Skinner has been playing uke for money since the late '70's. He's written music for many dance and theater productions, most conspicuously for Bill Irwin's "Regard of Flight," a show whose long career included a Broadway run and a slot on PBS's "Great Performances" (and which also featured a couple of vintage uke tunes).
In the '90's, he teamed with Anne Shapiro and Jen Duffy in the band White Knuckle Sandwich, whose exploits included an MTV jingle, organizing the "New Uke, New York" series at Joe's Pub in NYC, and many ukecentric gigs.
He's performed his "chillingly zany" songs ("NY Times") at Caroline's, Lincoln Center, Dixon Place, Dance Theater Workshop, and many other wonderful places. Other memorable uke pop-ups include a duet with Bill Irwin at the Centro Humor Side in Florence, a slot on the "Joe Franklin Show," bits on the PBS series "The '90's," and reviving old songs about Darwinism at the London UnConvention.
He currently teaches uke at Jalopy www.jalopy.biz, in the magical land of Red Hook. |
